Character One
Name: Irena Szewińska
Age: 15
Appearance:, though likely with warmer clothes over those clothes right now, seeing as they are in a rather cold area. I figure Zepplien would at least want their people to not completely instantly freeze to death while they worked for them.
Crime: Stealing
Personal Belongings: A family photo album that she tries and hides the best she can so nobody will take it away from her, seeing as it's her closest connection she has left to her family, other thne personal feelings in her heart and mind obviously.
Bio: Not much needs to be said about her life up until she was about 14, because her life was relatively normal. She got a pretty good education, learning to speak English fairly fluently at a rather young age. She seemed to generally mature and learn faster then her fellow classmates throughout her entire life. Her parents were very down to earth and friendly, not pushing her too much to only get A's in her grades (Which she did, anyway), and so on. She is the single child of the family, and the family is very proud of their only child.
Things had been a little iffy around her parts for a while, since the nation of Zepplien had been expanding their rein to more and more countries. But, her country seemed to stay relatively safe for a while. That didn't last, though, and when she was 14, things started to get much more dangerous in Poland. Every day for weeks, her and her entire family (Parents, grandparents, cousins, ect) lived in fear of going out of their own house. Really, unless they absolutely had to, they didn't go out of their house. Irena actually went out once to get food for her family herself, saying that she was smaller and more agile so she could sneak out easier without getting caught. That ended up going rather well, and the family had their small ration of food.
But then, one day, their home was invaded. Or, more specifically, all of her families homes, which were all near each other. It didn't go well. For whatever reason she couldn't really comprehend, they started to just shoot her entire family without mercy, killing them. She heard stories about what Zepplien did, but why would any of them just shoot them? She knew people got taken away and thrown into Gulag's for doing crimes, but as far as she was aware, her family didn't do any crimes worth being shot on shot. She narrowly escaped, but the rest of her family was killed. They didn't seem to pursue her though, to her relief. Bits of feelings of revenge hit her. Revenge she wanted on her family for what happened to them. But she tried to contain that feeling as much as possible, before she did something stupid.
She lived on the streets for weeks by herself, stealing to keep herself alive. She hated the fact she had to steal, but survival was an automatic human trait and she planned to stay alive by all means necessary, no matter what harsh conditions she found herself in during all of this, even if it was just to keep her family name alive. Her 15th birthday went by during this time, and as you would expect, it was her most depressing birthday ever. Overall she did alright as far as being stuck in dangerous territory alone goes, though she had a few close encounters with the "authorities"
Then one day, she wasn't so lucky. While stealing some goods for herself, she got caught. It wasn't even being caught by the Zepplien guards. It was being caught by the shop owner running his business, who then turned her into the Zepplien officials, even though she handed him the stuff back, apologizing and saying she was just trying to survive. Not that it mattered all that much, since she still had stolen quite a bit over the weeks out here. From there, she was currently in the process of being taken to the Gulag for her crimes, to her fear and distaste at the Zepplien officials and the heartless shop owner.
Extras: Nothing important, really.
Character Two
Name: Björgólfur Þóreyjarson Smárason
Age: 53
Appearance:
Crime: Murder of a Zepplien scientist, and murder in general while fighting.
Personal Belongings: A picture of his family, and various other small things he's traded for while in the Gulag that he hides and whatnot.
Bio: He has lived a fairly long, eventful life. He joined the Icelandic military when he was 20 as a soldier on the ground. There had been some attacks from Greenland over the early years of his military career. Greenland seemed determined to take Iceland for themselves, but in the end, backed down and retreated back to Greenland. This is where most of Bjorgolfur's combat training came into play. Which, he had a lot of military training, and some pretty brutal military training at that.
Eventually in his life he got married and had 2 kids. He got married at the age of 25. But sadly, at the age of 35, his wife, 8-year old son and 10-year old daughter, all got in a tragic car accident, and died. Of course, this hit him really hard, and it still affects him to this day. To make it worse, it was a drunk driver. But, even though it put him into a bad mindset for months, he eventually recovered from it and lived his life the best he could by himself.
From then on, his life was pretty typical, nothing much happening and him just living his life out in the middle of nowhere at his house. That was up until the Zepplien occupation started to spread, and he went back to fighting in war. He fought the Zepplien's as long as he could, but eventually after murdering a Zepplien scientist, got caught and thrown into a Gulag. He is not new to the Gulag in the slightest, and has been there, doing the work he is told to do, for over a year now.
He can be a tough, ruthless, cold hearted person if the circumstances absolutely call for it, but overall seems to be quite the nice man. He's clearly troubled, and any time he has to do something that may be considered ruthless or cold hearted because it is necessary or whatever, he obviously feels guilty about it. He has thrown out the idea of escaping the Gulag a couple of times in his mind, but has never really garnered enough people who were brave enough to actually act on that thought, risking their own lives in the process. Still, he's pondered the idea, but nothing has come of it yet.
Extras: Nope
Character Three
Name: Klaus Von Hindenburg
Age: 36
Appearance:
Crime: Rebellion and Spying
Personal Belongings: A cool-looking knife he managed to get a hold of somehow in the Gulag, but he keeps its existence low-profile so the Zepplien officials don't like, take it away from him so he doesn't stab people with them. Specifically, guards.
Bio: He joined the German military as a spy at the age of 20, and has been spying for the German military since. From spying on places the German government considered to be a "Threat to their safety", to spying on the Zepplien Hegemony, which they also considered to be a "Threat to their safety". Which ended up to be rather true in the long run. As you would expect, he is quite skilled when it comes to spying these days, with all the years experience he has. He never got married, preferring to focus on his job of spying then settling down with a wife and starting a family. Honestly, that thought never appealed to him at all, likely having to do with him being an asexual.
As you could probably guess, the German government eventually fell to Zepplien. But even though the government pretty much gave in to Zepplien, there was still a small underground group of government officials and rebels banding together for plans to either retake Germany or at least cause the Zepplien military some issues. And as you could probably guess, Klaus was out doing a spying mission that went wrong, and that was how he was sent to the Gulag. While Irena just arrived, and Björgólfur has been there for over a year, he has been in the Gulag for about 6 months, though he lost track of time. He seems to be rather strong about the whole thing, and took forever to give in to saying he was a spy. Bjorgolfur gave in fairly quickly, only because he knew it served no purpose to draw out the whole thing.
Extras: He is probably the most bitter and cold hearted of my characters, pretty much doing whatever he thinks is necessary to advance either himself, or his group of people to victory at all costs. So, for the most part, he lacks kindness, considering too much kindness to be a weakness in the big scope of things. He thinks too much kindness can get you killed in the long run, and being rather determined to survive, has, for the most part, eliminated being kind, for in his mind, the better.
